DIFFERENTIATING PAIN FROM DISCOMFORT

We often get asked the question, “how do I differentiate pain from discomfort?” Pain is defined as an unpleasant feeling often caused by intense or damaging stimuli interpreted by the brain. One can expect mild to moderate discomfort when exercising, but experiencing actual pain could indicate something is wrong. If you feel shooting or piercing pain, stop exercising immediately and change the workout to decrease pressure on the muscle or tissue. If after modifying the exercise the pain is not relieved, try something lighter or discontinue your workout and seek the advice of a licensed healthcare professional for further evaluation and advice. If you are experiencing pain at your normal resting state or during light/moderate daily activities you should seek the advice of a licensed healthcare professional as well. If you need help give us a call, we would be glad to get you back in the athletic game or the game of life – 561.313.9117.
