How to choose the right gym?



1.) KNOW YOUR GOALS


Is your goal weight loss, to gain muscle, to maintain and stay healthy, to improve flexibility mobility or just to be more social? Keep in mind your reason for increasing your fitness and this will help to narrow down the gym that is right for you.

2.) KNOW YOUR LIMITATIONS


Do you have a specific injury that you are aware of? Are there any movements that you cannot do or cause pain or any activities that you cannot do or cause pain. If you answered yes to any of these questions you may want a gym that has a coach or trainer that is knowledgeable in injuries and how to modify your workouts based on your ability.


3.) PROXIMITY


For most people the frequency of going to the gym depends on the ease of getting there. Is it close to your home or work? Consistency in the gym is the best way to get results. Make sure it is easy for you to get there.


4.) HOURS


Make sure the gym that you choose has hours that are good for your schedule. Do you need a 24 hour gym? If you would like a gym that has group classes, do they offer the class you want at the time that you The gyms hours are an important thing to consider.


5.) COST


Make sure the cost is something that you are comfortable with. Many gyms and trainers offer a discount if you purchase a long term membership or a multiple class membership.


6.) DO YOU NEED A COACH OR PERSONAL TRAINER?


Do you need or want a coach/personal trainer?


Here are some signs that you may benefit from a gym with a coach or personal trainer:


a.) you had or currently have an injury that needs someone to oversee the safety of your exercises


b.) you are not sure if your form is good


c.) you need extra motivation and inspiration


d.) you need someone to hold you accountable


e.) having a coach or trainer will help you be more consistent


f.) you are unsure how to set up a workout program specific for your goals


7.) YOU NEED SOMEONE TO WATCH YOUR FORM


Poor form during exercise can lead to serious injuries that can be permanent. If you think your form is not good, are new to exercise or you would like to decrease your risk of injury you may want to choose a gym that has trainers and coaches that are paying close attention to you and your form.
